So when I ask people why they don’t bake from scratch more often, one of the major reasons I hear is TIME. And I get it, it’s totally a lot easier to open a cake mix or buy a container of whipped topping. But if you ask me if I am going to indulge in all those calories I want those calories to be worth it. I mean like totally worth it. And the only way to do that is to make it from scratch. 

But that doesn’t mean you can’t bake smart. These 5 baking hacks are meant to save you time so you can crank dessert out even faster. And you can also download my complete list of baking hacks!

Baking Hack #1: Prepare Your Pans The Easy Way

When it comes to baking you need to prepare your pans right? But this can annoying and frustrating. But I have a super simple hack for you to prepare your pan in a snap. Flip it over! Press the foil over the bottom to create the shape, then flip it over again and place in the bottom of your pan! And BAM..your pan is ready!

Baking Hack #2: Brown Your Bananas Quickly

Making banana bread but your bananas aren’t quite ripe? Don’t worry! You can brown your bananas in a jiffy by popping them on a parchment lined cookie sheet and baking them in your oven at 300ºF for 30 minutes (larger bananas may take longer).

Baking Hack #3: Soften Your Butter In Minutes

Room temperature is usually like the first thing you’ll see on a recipe. And if you use cold butter or worse soften too quickly and it become slightly melted it can change the consistency of your baked good. But there is a way around this! To bring your butter to room temperature quickly heat a cup of water in the microwave for 2 minutes. Then place butter that has been cut into tablespoons on a plate in the microwave next to the water for 10 minutes (with the microwave off) and door shut. Baking Hack #4: Soften Your Brown Sugar Instantly

The last thing you need when you go to start a recipe like maybe some M&M brown butter blondies is brown sugar that isn’t fresh and become hard on you. Nobody has time for a random grocery store trip! If you store your brown sugar with a tortilla it will keep it soft for you so it’s ready whenever you are. And bonus: the tortilla will leave no crumbs behind!

Baking Hack #5: Bring Your Eggs To Room Temperature Quickly

If you’re like me, you either forget to take your ingredients out ahead of time when you go to bake. But you absolutely need your ingredients at room temperature when you go to bake. But letting them come to the room temperature naturally is so time consuming! But there’s a hack around that. If you need to bring your eggs to room temperature Place in a cup of warm water (not HOT!) and let sit for 10 minutes.

  4. Very useful – but don’t I have to grease the foil to keep the baking from sticking to it?
    Also I keep my butter in the freezer so room temp is a real problem. Grating it helps, luckily I have a kitchenaid mixer with the necessary attachments.
