When it comes to summertime desserts, I just love making rice krispie treats. Bringing rice krispie treats to a party or barbecue is always a big hit.

I’ve made all sorts of fun varieties of rice krispie treats around here – from strawberry rice krispie treats, white chocolate funfetti rice krispie treats, to S’mores rice krispie treats, peanut butter rice krispie treats, my brown butter rice krispie treats and a decadent chocolate rice krispie treats recipe. They are such a favorite childhood treat that I can’t help changing things up on.

This time I decided to combine two of my favorite flavors – chocolate and peanut butter into one epic rice krispie treat recipe!

Creamy peanut butter is melted into the butter and marshmallows, then crispy rice cereal is stirred in. The peanut butter rice krispie treats, are topped with melted chocolate chips before serving. Easy peasy and delicious!

Ingredients for Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats

  • Unsalted butter – I like to use unsalted butter, but you can also use salted butter in this rice krispie treats recipe.
  • Mini marshmallows – I used a 10 ounce bag of mini marshmallows, but you can also use large marshmallows instead of mini marshmallows if need be.
  • Creamy peanut butter – I used creamy peanut butter, but you could also use a chunky peanut butter. I do not recommend a natural peanut butter as it can be too oily.
  • Riced cereal – Such as Rice Krispies cereal. You can swap out the Rice krispie cereal and use cocoa krispies instead for even more chocolate flavor!
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips – You will melt the semi sweet chocolate chips chocolate chips and spread over the treats. You can also swap and use milk chocolate chips or mix things up and use white chocolate chips or butterscotch chips!
