Funfetti Cake Batter Dip Recipe- NO BAKE!

As much as I love baking and turning the oven on and whipping up a complicated dessert like a layer cake, there’s nothing better than mixing up a no bake dessert in no time. Like maybe my edible cookie dough, chocolate covered Oreos, Oreo fudge, or Oreo cake balls. And now this dip. My cake batter dip recipe.

And you know what? When I made this Funfetti dip for a girls’ night everyone could not get enough. It was gobbled up in no time! Everyone loved the cake batter flavor and being able to pick and choose what to dip in it. I loved that it was made in minutes and didn’t require the oven.

Yes, this was a sweet dessert dip was a huge crowd pleaser. A dessert dip is always a fun dessert to make for a party- like my brownie batter dip, Oreo fluff, strawberry cheesecake dip, or my pumpkin pie dip.

Why we love Funfetti Dip?

Oh let me count the ways! This funfetti cake batter dip has great cake batter flavor when you use a funfetti cake mix, and my little secret weapon – clear vanilla extract.

I think it also has to do with bringing out the kid in us! I grew up enjoying the Dunkaroo funfetti dip and this really brings me back!

Dessert dips are a great party dessert to bring that I know your guests are going to love. It’s a great addition to your dessert table, that you can serve with strawberries, Nilla wafers, or even graham crackers.

3 Reasons To Make This Recipe

  • Easy no bake dessert dip – No need to turn the oven on for this dessert making it a great summer dessert to serve.
  • Mixes up in minutes – This takes only minutes to prep, making it a great last minute dessert.
  • Crowd pleasing dessert – You can serve this dessert with cookies and fresh fruit making it a dessert everyone is going to love and dig into. It’s a perfect dessert for birthday parties, a New Year’s eve party game night, or any party that needs a quick, easy dessert.

Ingredients Needed

  • 1 box of cake mix – Any Funfetti cake mix will work, like Pillsbury Funfetti cake mix. I used Annie’s organic confetti mix. Or you can use white cake mix as well if you can’t find a Funfetti cake mix. I haven’t tried it with chocolate cake mix, but I think it would make a great chocolate cake batter dip as well!
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened – I prefer a full-fat cream cheese for best flavor and texture, but I think light cream cheese would work fine.
  • 8-ounces whipped topping, or homemade whipped cream – You could use a container of whipped topping (aka Cool whip) but I think it’s worth the extra few minutes of making your own homemade whipped cream.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (I prefer clear vanilla) Clear vanilla will give you the brightest, whitest cake batter dip, and gives you more of a “true cake batter” flavor that can’t be beat. But pure vanilla extract or imitation vanilla extract will also work!
  • 5-7 tablespoons milk – Any milk will work here. I used whole milk for richness, but a low-fat milk or dairy free milk will also work.
  • rainbow sprinkles – Of course you can’t forget the sprinkles! You want to add sprinkles on top before serving, so the colors don’t bleed into the dip.

How to make Cake Batter Dip

For safety reasons, it’s recommended to heat-treat the dry cake mix for this cake batter dip recipe. It’s as simple as heating the cake mix in the oven or the microwave briefly and then letting it cool.

Spread the Funfetti cake mix onto a lined baking sheet. Cook for 5 minutes, then cool before using in the dip. Or you can also microwave the cake mix  in 30 second increments until an internal temperature reaches 165oF.

Cream cream cheese and whip cream (or Cool Whip).

I prefer to make homemade whip cream for this Funfetti dip, but in a pinch you can use Cool whip.

In a large mixing bowl, with an electric mixer, beat cream cheese and whipped cream (or whipped topping) together until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.

For best results, it’s best to use an electric mixer to get the best creamy texture. But if you don’t have one you could mix with a spatula or wooden spoon but just make sure the cream cheese is very soft to work with.

Add cake mix. Make sure it’s cool enough to add to the whip cream mixture so it doesn’t melt the whip cream and cream cheese. Beat until completely combined.

Add milk and vanilla. Beat in milk and vanilla until combined. Start with 5 Tablespoons milk, and add 1-2 tablespoons milk more until a desired consistency is reached.

Serve. Garnish with sprinkles. Serve dip immediately with cookies, like Animal crackers or Nilla vanilla wafers, or graham crackers. You can also serve with fresh fruit, like strawberries. If not serving immediately, cover and refrigerate. Before serving, let soften at room temperature.

Recipe Tips

  • If making ahead of time, store in the refrigerator, but the sprinkles can bleed color over time the longer it sits so it’s best to not garnish with sprinkles until ready to serve.
  • Dip will thicken over time as it sits.

You can store this Funfetti cake batter dip recipe in an airtight container, covered with plastic wrap, until you’re ready to serve it, or if there is any leftover cake batter dip (if there any!) for up to 4 days in the fridge.

I don’t recommend freezing this dip as the texture may change when thawed.
