- It’s no bake! – I mean I love making homemade pies, but a no bake pie is always a winner.
- Make Ahead – You can make this all in one day, but I prefer to make it the day before. It’s a perfect holiday dessert for that reason.
- All homemade – Yes from the crust, to the whipped cream that’s folded in. But take some shortcuts if you need to from the caramel to the hot fudge if you need to.
How to make this turtle pie
Make The Oreo Crust
First start by making a homemade oreo crust. It’s super simple and just requires 3 ingredients. Soooo much better than store-bought.
I simply pulse my Oreos in my food processor until they are fine crumbs. If you don’t own a food processor, then place your cookies in a large resealable plastic bag and crush them with a meat mallet or rolling pin. This will take a little bit of effort, but totally doable.
HEATHER’S BAKING TIP: If using a plastic bag and rolling pin/mallet method, use two bags. One bag placed inside another. I always find mine pops a hole and I have crumbs everywhere.
Then add your melted butter and little bit of salt. And then it’s time to press the mixture into your pie plate. I used this deep dish 9-inch pie plate.
HEATHER’S BAKING TIP: Press the mixture into your pie plate using the bottom of a measuring cup.
Once the crust has been pressed in, I like to chill my pie crust while I make the filling. So pop it in the fridge and get ready to make the filling!
Make The Filling
Once your pie crust is in the fridge chilling, it’s time to make the caramel filling. For the filling you will need powdered sugar, cream cheese, caramel, and heavy cream.
You want to make sure to use softened cream cheese when mixing it together otherwise it can be very difficult to combine. You want to start by mixing the cream cheese and sugar together first. Once that is nice and smooth add the caramel. You can use store-bought or make your own Salted Caramel Sauce Recipe.
Once that is all mixed together you need to then whip the cream. This is done in a separate bowl first. Once it’s whipped to soft peaks fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
HEATHER’S BAKING Tip: Chill the bowl and beaters first by popping them into your freezer for 10 minutes so the cream whips up quickly.
Chill And Assemble
Once the mixture is ready go ahead and spread this into your pie plate. If your pie plate isn’t as deep as mine, you may need to mound your filling up above the crust. And just smooth it out with the spatula.
At this point, yes, the pie does need to firm up in the fridge for 3-4 hours. Torture. I know. But worth it. Once it’s chilled you can go ahead and make it pretty. I drizzled on some hot fudge sauce, more caramel, and garnished with a little whipped cream and toasted pecan halves.
You can add a few pecans for a pretty garnish or as many as you would like for that true turtle candy experience!
Serving Suggestions:
When serving this pie I love topping it with the following:
More Recipe Tips
- Refrigerate the pie crust before filling at least 30 minutes
- Use softened cream cheese so its easier mixed into the powdered sugar.
- Spray the measuring cup for the caramel with a bit of non-stick spray before measuring. This way it will release much easier!
- Make this pie the night before for an easy dessert to pull together!
Recipe FAQ’s
Yes! Absolutely you can. Just wrap the pie up with some plastic wrap and let it chill. When ready to serve then garnish with the sauces, pecans and whipped cream.ย
I used a 9″ deep dish pie plate. If your pie plate isn’t as deep you may need to mound the filling slightly. You can also use a square 9″inch pan if you want as well.ย

No Bake Turtle Pie
Ingredients
For the crust
- 26 Oreo cookies
- 5 Tablespoons (3/4 stick, 3 ounces) unsalted butter melted
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
For the filling
- 16 ounces (2 blocks) cream cheese softened
- 1 1/3 cups (159 g) powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) heavy cream cold
- 3/4 cup caramel homemade or store-bought
- garnish: pecans, hot fudge, caramel, and whipped cream
Instructions
- To make the oreo crust: Place cookies in a food processor and pulse until the cookies have become crumbs. You can also turn the cookies into crumbs by placing the cookies into a zip-loc bag and crust them with a rolling pin. Add the melted butter and pinch of salt to the crumbs and pulse to combine. (If making without the food processor, transfer the crumbs to a bowl and stir the sugar and butter in with a fork) Using the bottom of the measuring cup, press the crumbs into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch plate. You can also use a 9-inch square pan or 9-inch springform pan. Chill the crust before filling for 30 minutes.
- To make the filling: Cream the cream cheese and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the caramel. Cream until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whip the cold heavy cream until soft peaks form. Then fold into the caramel filling.
- Spread the filling into the prepared Oreo crust and chill about 4 hours. Garnish: top with toasted pecan halves, hot fudge, and caramel, whipped cream!
Notes
- Pan Size: I used a 9″ deep dish pie plate. If your pie plate isn’t as deep then you may need to mound the filling slightly.
- Refrigerate the pie crust before filling at least 30 minutes
- Use softened cream cheese so its easier mixed into the sugar.
- Spray the measuring cup for the caramel with a bit of non-stick spray before measuring. This way it will release much easier!
- Make this pie the night before for an easy dessert to pull together! Do not garnish until right before serving.
I made this a couple months ago and it was a huge hit. Now wondering if I could spin some pumpkin purรฉe in with the cream and sugar to make this thanksgiving. Or do you need to bake canned pumpkin?
Hi Chalin, no pumpkin doesn’t need to be cooked – I’ve made a no bake pumpkin dip using canned pumpkin. If you try let me know how it turns out!
